Donald Helme returns to home ground for The Hot Box #158, bringing together contemporary releases and archive recordings that reflect the breadth of jazz made here in Ireland.
The Hot House Big Band gets things swinging, while pianists John Donegan and Scott Flanigan share the programme with the late master of stride piano, Professor Peter O’Brien. There is guitar music too, from the duo Julien & John and Hugh Buckley with his international band.
A particular highlight is Made in Dublin, a newly released archive recording from Livia Records capturing the great pianist Tommy Flanagan in 1984, alongside John Wadham on drums and Lindsey Horner on bass. Two selections offer a taste of this welcome addition to the recorded history of jazz in Ireland.
From big band swing to intimate piano performances, join Donald for another home game—and keep your feedback, requests and stories coming to donald@jazzireland.ie.
